Under the agreement, Ferozsons will market and distribute certain Gilead medications for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis-C; HIV and chronic Hepatitis-B virus (HBV) infection in Pakistan, the officials said. Osman Khalid Waheed, president of Ferozsons Laboratories Limited, said: "The agreement is a very important milestone for the company but more significantly it also marks a paradigm shift in the treatment landscape for diseases such as Hepatitis C, which affects over 10 million people in the country. We look forward to bringing these new innovations to patients in Pakistan." Stribild and Sovaldi are pending registration in Pakistan. The registration application for Sovaldi was submitted in May with the request for an accelerated review on the basis of medical needs, he said. In addition to distributing branded Gilead medicines, Ferozsons will manage regulatory and pharmaco-vigilance activities such as adverse event reporting, as well as broader medical education initiatives, he said. Sovaldi was approved in the United States on December 8, 2013 and in the European Union on January 17. In the United States, Sovaldi is approved for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis-C infection as a component of a combination antiviral treatment regimen. Stribild is a complete once-daily single tablet regimen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Truvada is a fixed-dose once-daily combination pill containing Viread and Emtriva. It is used in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV infection in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older, he said. Viread is a once-daily oral nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI) for the treatment of HIV infection in patients two years of age and older in combination with other antiretroviral agents. Viread is also approved as a treatment for chronic Hepatitis-B in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older.
